DESCRIPTION:Please Join us for our bi-annual Tastes & Tales of Terra Madre dinner to celebrate Slow Food and our chapter’s delegates to Italy’s Terra Madre Salone del Gusto! The evening will raise funds to send our delegates to Italy’s Terra Madre Salone del Gusto in 2024. \nBegin the evening by mingling with other guests overlooking Becky and Bill Foss’ vineyard\, savoring a selection of appetizers and enjoying a variety of Italian wines. \nThen peruse the treasures offered in a silent auction before sitting down for a three-course dinner accompanied by Sonoma County wines. \nBetween dinner courses\, we will hear from those who attended Terra Madre 2022. \nOur delegate to Terra Madre 2022 was Tucker Taylor\, Head Culinary Gardener of Jackson Family Farms. Also attending from the chapter were Donna del Rey\, owner of Relish Culinary Adventures in Healdsburg (both Snail of Approval awardees)\, and Marie Giacalone\, Chair of the chapter’s Events Team. DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a garlic tasting with renowned grower Yale Bernier\, and raise funds to support local farmers and ranchers!\nBernier Home Farm\, Geyserville\nThis event is a fundraiser for Sonoma County North’s Local Farmer Project\, which awards grants to farmers and ranchers working in Sonoma County. The project team is Yael Bernier\, Rebecca Bozelli\, and Kelly Osman.\nYael will give us information about the cultivation and harvesting of garlic and describe the differences among the garlic types that she grows (some of which are on the Slow Food Ark of Taste). \nWe will taste 3 types of raw and roasted garlic with crostini\, compare the flavors\, and discuss which ones pair best with various foods. The tasting will be accompanied by your choice of beer or wine. \nFollowing the tasting we will have vichyssoise made with Bodega Red potatoes and Bernier garlic. \nWe will also have a raffle for four wonderful surprises! We will also have speakers–a little education can be fun too! Mingle with “Slow Celebrities” and find out the latest slow food updates on Slow Food Nations and beyond. They are handmade by artisans in the community surrounding the Mungere School in Tanzania. Mungere’s half-acre organic garden feeds up to 200 students two meals a day. Agricultural coursework built around the garden provides students with practical skills and work experience in sustainability. \nSo much fun in one afternoon\, you won’t want to miss it. SUMMARY:Tastes & Tales of Terra Madre Dinner
DESCRIPTION:It’s time for our bi-annual Tastes & Tales of Terra Madre dinner to celebrate Slow Food and our chapter’s delegates to Italy’s Terra Madre! Three delegates represented Sonoma County North: Kathy Matonak (chapter leader)\, Kelly Osman (Oz Family Farms)\, and Ellen Shick (food writer). Come join us as we hear Tales of their adventures and have Tastes that are inspired by this international food event. \nDinner will be prepared by Slow Food Snail of Approval chef/owners of Zazu restaurant+farm and Estero Café\, with assistance from Backyard. \n  \nMENU \n>Assortment of Slow Appetizers \n>Local Wines \n>Deconstructed Salad of Mixed Greens and Smoked Fish\, Samantha and Ryan Ramey\, Estero Cafe \n>Honey-Brined Pastured Chicken with Meyer Lemon Conserve\, Duskie Estes and John Stewart\, Zazu kitchen+farm; brined by Daniel Kedan\, Backyard. Chicken from A4 Farm (co-owner Jessica Ascoop is recipient of the 2018-19 Local Farmer grant from Sonoma County North.) \n>Roasted Fingerling Potatoes with Aioli and Horseradish Gremolata\, Ras-Al-Nanout Carrots\, Duskie Estes and John Stewart\, Zazu kitchen+farm. \n>Polenta Cake with Meyer Lemon and Cream\, Sonoma County North \nBegin the evening savoring a selection of appetizers and enjoying local wine to the beat of classic jazz from the Blue Smoothies. Then peruse the treasures offered in a silent auction before sitting down for a three-course dinner. \nThis evening will raise funds to send our delegates to Terra Madre in 2020. \nTickets: www.brownpapertickets.com/event/4188806 \nAdditional details will be coming soon about this fun & delicious event!! \nSome Background About Terra Madre\nSlow Food International holds a bi-annual gathering in Turin\, Italy called Terra Madre Salone del Gusto. Seven-thousand delegates from 160 countries\, over 800 exhibitors\, 300 Slow Food Presidia\, and 500 Terra Madre food communities took part in the event in 2018.\nThe theme of Terra Madre 2018 was Food for Change. Event participants were asked to reflect on their food choices: what production methods they support\, what they cook\, what they put in their shopping cart. Every day the food we choose brings up questions about our health\, but also the environment\, social justice\, economics\, politics and many greater issues.
