Join us for a tour of Stargazer’s agave field!

Learn about the 30 varieties of agave that are grown at Stargazer and how they are farmed. Agave is a drought-tolerant, resilient crop and is a good option for California as water becomes more scarce.

The tour will be led by owners Adam and Laurie Goldberg, who will give the history of this 6-year old farm and its long-term plan to make agave spirits. The tour includes a 20-minute walk from the main house to the field (and back again). However, if you choose not to walk you may stay at the house and enjoy the agaves planted nearby.

About Stargazer Nursery

Based in the heart of Sonoma County, we are breeding and growing over 30 varieties of agave with a goal of identifying extraordinary agaves for spirit production and ornamental use. Our agaves include common spirit varietals, uncommon ornamentals, and U.S. natives and domesticates. Our particular focus is breeding and cultivating plants that will thrive in Northern California’s dry, hot summers and cool, wet winters. We are expanding our planted acreage slowly each year, as we experiment with native ground cover, cover crops, interplanting, and various organic and regenerative soil management practices. We use no pesticides or herbicides, and we clear all weeds by hand.

We started our Glen Ellen, California, agave farm in 2020 with a mission to make world class, distinct agave spirits. We strongly believe that our terroir will produce agave spirits of quality, structure, and nuance. Our goal is to help grow the knowledge and experience critical for developing an agave spirits industry in California and the United States. We are active members of the California Agave Council, where Laurie served on the Board for 3 years, and are working with UC Davis as part of their grant-funded research project on agave farming throughout California.
